major record labelsBefore you can even dream about getting signed to a record label, you first need to create the all important demo. Putting together a demo requires serious thought and effort because this is what a talent scout is going to be judging you on. You need to choose at least two of your absolute best songs. Best songs doesn’t necessarily mean your most popular songs. Think about the lyrics, the composition, the format. If you own a Mac, you can easily figure out how to record some of your songs yourself. But if you can afford professional studio time, it’ll be well worth the money.

Don’t bother recording an entire album’s worth. No one is going to want to listen to it, except the fans of course. Keep it to two or three tracks. Practice the songs numerous times at home before hitting the studio so you don’t waste time and money. If recording at home, don’t fret over it not being perfect. As long as your talent shines through, that’s all that matters.

When you’re ready to share you demo with the world, contact Conrad Dimanche at The Firm and be prepared for a world of success after you get a record deal.

A&R stands for Artists and Repertoire. This is a division within the record label that is responsible for talent scouting. They need to keep up-to-date on music trends within the market so that they can find uprising talent with potential for success in the business.

Many times you will find that they find talent through word of mouth. They take trusted associate’s advise as well as note critiques from others in the business about the talent in question for a contract.

Once an artist is signed they will act as the liaison between the label and the artist. They will oversee the recording process and book recording studio time; and eventually they will help with the promotion.

If you want to get a record deal then these are the people you need access to. The Firm: A&R Consulting is one place that can make these connections available to you. With years in the business, they can open the door to A&R execs so that you can make getting signed a reality.
